TNI Orders Lebanon Contingent to Bunkers Amid Attacks

3 hours ago 2

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta The Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), General Agus Subiyanto, has ordered Indonesian soldiers in Lebanon to take shelter in bunkers. This directive follows several TNI casualties sustained during recent hostilities between Israel and armed groups in southern Lebanon.

Agus issued the instruction during a video call with the Commander of the Yonmek XXIII-S/UNIFIL Unit. The unit is comprised of Indonesian contingents serving in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) peacekeeping mission.

During the exchange with the commander on the ground, Agus urged the troops to maintain their morale. "Continue to carry out internal security, take shelter in the bunkers, refrain from any further outdoor activities, and maintain the morale of the soldiers. Thank you, stay motivated in carrying out your duties," Agus said in the call, as quoted from a video on his social media account on Saturday, April 4, 2026.

The Commander of the Yonmek XXIII-S/UNIFIL Task Force responded to the orders, stating that the soldiers are ready to carry out the instructions. "Thank you for your guidance; we will convey your regards to all the soldiers," the task force commander said.

In a post on his Instagram account, Agus stated that the top priority is currently the safety and protection of soldiers in southern Lebanon as they perform their duties. He also offered prayers for the personnel currently deployed.

"May all the soldiers remain under the protection of God Almighty and be given strength and steadfastness in every step of their service. Our prayers accompany your every step," Agus wrote in the caption of his post.

A series of attacks in Lebanon has resulted in several TNI casualties. Since the end of March 2026, three TNI soldiers have been killed while serving in the UNIFIL mission, while eight others have been injured.

Currently, both the UN and UNIFIL are investigating the origin of the strikes that claimed the lives of the Indonesian personnel. In recent weeks, Israel has been reported to have carried out attacks on peacekeeping forces in southern Lebanon.
