TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - TikTok will close its photo-sharing app, TikTok Notes, on May 8, 2025. After the closure of this Instagram competitor, TikTok is directing its users to switch to Lemon8 as an alternative to TikTok Notes.
“We’re excited to bring the feedback from TikTok Notes to Lemon8 as we continue building a dedicated space for our community to share and experience photo content, designed to complement and enhance the TikTok experience,” said a TikTok spokesperson in a statement to TechCrunch, cited on Thursday, April 3, 2025.
TikTok Notes is an app dedicated to photo sharing, similar to Instagram when it was first launched. The app was first launched in Canada, Australia, and Vietnam in April 2024.
Meanwhile, Lemon8's concept is similar to Instagram's early days but combines a feed layout similar to Pinterest. TikTok Notes and Lemon8 are entities under ByteDance, the Chinese parent company that oversees TikTok.
In a TechCrunch report, TikTok did not disclose the reason for closing TikTok Notes. However, the company is pushing the 12.5 million active users of TikTok Notes to migrate to Lemon8.
Singer Jonah Manzano also announced the closing of TikTok Notes through his private Threads account. He informed that any features on the platform will not be available for long, as cited from Jonah's post made on March 20, 2025.
In the post, TikTok Notes users are directed to download and save their data. Then, they are advised to download Lemon8 as the replacement app.
