TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Three Indonesian shuttlers across the women’s singles, mixed doubles, and men’s doubles events suffered defeats on the second day of the BWF World Tour Finals 2025 in Hangzhou, China, on Thursday, December 18, 2025. As a result, two Indonesian representatives have been confirmed eliminated from semifinal contention.

In the women’s singles, Putri Kusuma Wardani was beaten by Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi in a tightly contested three-game match in Group A. Putri fell 24–22, 19–21, 13–21, marking her second loss at the tournament after an earlier defeat to South Korea’s An Se-young (16–21, 21–8, 8–21).

The two consecutive losses sealed Putri’s exit from the semifinals. She will still play her final Group A match against another Japanese player, Tomoka Miyazaki, on Friday, December 19, 2025. From the group, An Se-young and Akane Yamaguchi have already secured semifinal spots, having won both of their matches.

Indonesia’s mixed doubles pair Jafar Hidayatullah/Felisha Pasaribu also suffered a second straight defeat. In their Group B match, they lost to Malaysia’s Chen Tang Jie/Toh Ee Wei 21–17, 14–21, 15–21. Earlier, Jafar/Felisha had been beaten by China’s top-seeded pair Feng Yanzhe/Huang Dongping 18–21, 16–21.

The back-to-back losses ended Jafar/Felisha’s hopes of reaching the semifinals. They will close their group-stage campaign against Malaysia’s Goh Soon Huat/Shevon Jemie Lai on Friday.

Meanwhile, Chen/Toh and Feng/Huang have already booked their semifinal places in Group B with two wins each.

In the men’s doubles, Sabar Gutama/Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani recorded their first defeat in Group A after losing to South Korea's Kim Won-ho/Seo Seung-jae 20–22, 17–21. Despite the setback, the Indonesian pair still have a chance to progress.

Sabar/Reza must win their final group match against Taiwan’s Chiu Hsiang-chieh/Wang Chi-lin on Friday to keep their semifinal hopes alive. Earlier, they opened their campaign with a victory over Malaysia’s Man Wei Chong/Tee Kai Wun, winning 23–21, 21–19.

Indonesia still has two more representatives scheduled to compete later on Thursday. In men’s singles Group B, Jonatan Christie is set to face Denmark’s Anders Antonsen, while men’s doubles pair Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri will take on India’s Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty in Group B.
