Syahrini Claims of Receiving UNESCO Award; Here's the Fact

7 hours ago 3

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian celebrity Syahrini recently posted a video snippet on her Instagram in which she claimed to have received an award from UNESCO, through the Princess Charlene Foundation and Listen To Her Parole. UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, is a UN agency focused on education, culture, and communication.

The poster Syahrini shared stated, "Cannes Award is Presented to Mrs Syahrini for Outstanding Achievement in Entertainment, Influence, & Global Cultural Impact." This award was given on May 14, 2025, at the Carlton Hotel in Cannes, France. The poster also showed the United Society Council logo.

On the actual award trophy she received, there was a UNESCO logo at the bottom, along with the names Guila Clara Kessous Artist for Peace and Fondation Princess Charlene de Monaco.

Clarifying the UNESCO Connection

In her Instagram post, Syahrini wrote, "I Am Incredibly Proud To Receive The Prestigious Award From UNESCO Through Princess Charleen Fondation & Listen To Her Parole."

However, reconfirmation from the Indonesian UN office revealed that the award was not from UNESCO, as she claimed, but from the United Society Council (USC), an independent organization based in Dublin, Ireland.

Siska Widyawati, the National Information Officer at the United Nations Information Center, confirmed this to Tempo on Tuesday, May 20, 2025. She clarified that the award has no relation to UNESCO. "From the information we gathered, this award was given at an event organized by the United Society Council, not UNESCO. The UNESCO logo accompanies the name of its Goodwill Ambassador, Guila Clara Kessous, who is one of UNESCO's artists for peace," she explained.

About the United Society Council (USC)

According to its official website, the United Society Council (USC) is an independent organization dedicated to community empowerment, environmental sustainability, humanitarian action, and world peace.

The USC often hosts exclusive events in prominent locations globally, such as Monaco, Cannes, Beverly Hills, London, Paris, New York, and Hong Kong. During these events, USC aims to connect influential individuals to promote positive initiatives aligned with its values.

The presence of the UNESCO logo is not due to an official collaboration, but rather the participation of Guila Clara Kessous as a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador.

According to the official unesco.org website, Kessous has been a UNESCO peace artist since January 2012. She is a French academic and artist known for her commitment to defending human rights, world peace, and justice through art. She has produced and directed over 20 shows in France and other countries as part of her work for human rights. She has also been organizing the international symposium Femina Vox since 2021.

Listen to Her Parole Award

The "Listen To Her Parole" event, which Syahrini attended, also has no official collaboration with UNESCO, according to the UNESCO official website. There have been no publications related to this award event by UNESCO.

"Listen To Her Parole" is a special section within Discrete Magazine that spotlights extraordinary women who have forged inspiring careers in art, fashion, business, politics, and technology.
