TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The US-based gaming platform Roblox has introduced two age-based account types, Roblox Kids and Roblox Select, as part of efforts to strengthen child safety and comply with digital protection regulations, including Indonesia’s Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025 on Electronic System Governance for Child Protection (PP Tunas).
Roblox Vice President for Civility and Partnerships Tami Bhaumik said the company has been in close communication with Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) to ensure compliance with the new rules.
“I think our relationship with the Indonesian government is very much aligned, especially in prioritizing children’s safety. Since January, we have been adapting to the standard regulations,” Tami said during a media briefing in Jakarta on Tuesday, April 14, 2026.
Under the new system, Roblox Kids accounts are designed for users aged up to 12, while Roblox Select is intended for those aged 13 to 15. The policy is supported by an age verification system that uses facial age estimation to ensure users access content appropriate to their age group.
“When we introduce age estimation through facial recognition, we aim to understand who is on the platform and their age, so we can ensure that the experiences, communications, and types of games they access are suitable for them,” she said.
“So we are doing everything we can to ensure that Roblox remains safe, healthy, and appropriate for children,” she added.
The platform also applies strict feature restrictions based on age. Roblox Kids users will not have access to chat features, while Roblox Select users can only access certain content under tighter controls.
In addition, content available on the platform will undergo multiple layers of verification and can only be created by verified developers, a measure aimed at ensuring safety and age-appropriate material.
Tami said discussions with the Indonesian government have been positive and constructive. “We have had very good and productive conversations with Komdigi. They are very cooperative, and I am optimistic we will build a strong partnership to further improve safety and deliver innovative solutions for children in Indonesia,” she said.
She added that talks are ongoing and a final decision on the policy’s implementation in Indonesia is expected soon. “We will continue discussions with Komdigi this week. Everything is happening in real time, so I expect a decision very soon,” she said.
On Monday, Communications and Digital Minister Meutya Hafid said the government is awaiting responses from digital platforms TikTok, Roblox, and Google to fully comply with PP Tunas requirements.
According to Antara, since the regulation took effect on March 28, 2026, the three platforms have yet to fully comply. TikTok and Roblox are classified as partially cooperative, while Google, as the owner of YouTube, has not indicated full compliance.
