TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Minister of Religious Affairs, Nasaruddin Umar, declared his readiness to assist in the implementation of hajj and umrah in 2026, despite the authority being transferred to the Hajj Organizing Agencu (BP Haji). "God willing, we will not remain idle. We will assist as far as needed," said Nasaruddin during a working meeting with House Commission VIII on Wednesday, August 27, 2025. "Even though the law does not mention us at all."
The Grand Imam of Istiqlal Mosque compares the Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Ministry of Hajj as "siblings." Nasaruddin feels a moral connection because both ministries concern the Islamic religion.
"Whether asked or not, of course we will provide what we can do for the success of the upcoming hajj administration," said Nasaruddin.
Lawmakers and the government have ratified the revision of Law Number 8 of 2019 concerning the Organization of Hajj and Umrah in a plenary session on Tuesday. The ratification transferred the authority of hajj maangement from the Ministry of Religious Affairs to the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah. The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah itself is the result of a nomenclature change of BP Haji.
Nasaruddin has received 11 points of notes for the 2025 hajj administration from BP Haji. Some of these include the management of pilgrim data regarding the grouping of pilgrim data in companies that are not synchronized, the mobilization of pilgrims and their belongings from the airport to the hotel upon arrival which is not well-organized, as well as the inaccuracy of placing pilgrims in hotels that have been contracted according to the pilgrim manifest.
The fourth point is the late and poorly organized distribution of nusuk cards to some pilgrims. Fifth, some meal portions do not meet the weight standard. Furthermore, there are still many pilgrims who are late to enter Arafah. Seventh, the mobilization of some pilgrims from Arafah to Muzdalifah is not well-organized.
Eighth, the allocation of time and the number of pilgrims in Muzdalifah do not match the capacity. Ninth, the transportation of pilgrims from Muzdalifah to Mina does not follow the plan. Some pilgrims do not get a place in the tents in Arafah and Mina, and some pilgrims who have registered for wukuf safari are not served.
Minister Nasaruddin Umar hopes that the aforementioned points will not recur in the 2026 hajj administration, but the parties involved in the 2025 Hajj implementation have exercised maximum effort.
