TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Russian President Vladimir Putin invited Indonesia's Prabowo Subianto for subsequent visits in May and July 2026, as disclosed by Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono on Monday, April 13, 2026.
Sugiono said Russia and Indonesia have agreed to strengthen economic ties and people-to-people relations between the two countries.
"President Putin also extended an invitation to President Prabowo to attend an event in Kazan scheduled for May, as well as a major industry exhibition to be held in July," Sugiono said, quoted from a broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel on Tuesday, April 14, 2026.
Sugiono mentioned that Russia is one of Indonesia's strategic partners, especially in the economic sector, and the invitation aimed to enhance the relationship between both countries. "Hopefully the relations become more intensive and beneficial for both parties," he added.
President Prabowo met with President Putin at the Kremlin Palace, Moscow, on Monday, April 13, 2026. During the meeting, Prabowo expressed his appreciation to Putin for Russia's support in various strategic areas for Indonesia.
"In several key matters for Indonesia, President Putin has provided support for Indonesia's needs," Prabowo told Putin.
Meanwhile, President Putin stated that Indonesia and Russia always prioritize key sectors for cooperation. Putin also mentioned that both sides have often discussed opportunities to develop cooperation in strategic areas, including energy, space, agriculture, industrial output, pharmaceuticals, education, and trade.
After the meeting in Moscow, Prabowo continued his trip to Paris, France. Prabowo arrived in Paris just before midnight on Monday, April 13.
