TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's President Prabowo Subianto visited flood-affected areas in Aceh Province on Sunday, December 7, 2025, in his second inspection trip since severe floods struck multiple regions in Sumatra. His earlier visit was to Tapanuli Tengah, North Sumatra, on December 1.
The Presidential Secretariat said Prabowo reviewed several heavily damaged locations to assess the impact firsthand. The President also aimed to ensure that emergency measures and recovery efforts move faster in the coming days.
During the visit, the President delivered a number of government commitments aimed at supporting residents impacted by the disaster.
Rehabilitation of Damaged Farmland
Prabowo assured Aceh farmers that the floods and landslides were a force majeure event and not due to negligence. He vowed government assistance to repair damaged dams and rehabilitate farmland to help farmers recover quickly.
“If the fields are damaged, we will help repair them. Until everything is restored, we will distribute food supplies. We have enough reserves,” Prabowo said, as quoted from the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube channel.
He added that collapsed forests and debris would also be cleared by the government.
Clearing Farmers’ Microcredit Debts
The President also announced relief for farmers repaying loans under the government-backed microcredit scheme (KUR). He said their debts would be written off due to the unavoidable nature of the disaster.
“Because this disaster is a force majeure, the KUR debts will be cleared,” he stated during his inspection of a bailey bridge in Teupin Mane, Bireuen Regency.
Rapid Repair of Key Bridge Access
The President reviewed construction of a 30-meter bailey bridge connecting Bireuen and Takengon, a crucial route cut off by strong floods and river currents.
“They are working around the clock, and hopefully it can reopen within a week,” Prabowo said. “From here, we will also push to reopen three more bridges to Bener Meriah and Takengon.”
He emphasized that restoring logistics and mobility is a top priority.
“We are deploying all resources. Hopefully within one to two weeks all major access points will be functional,” he noted.
