TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto said some groups do not want peace to be achieved in the Gaza Strip. According to Prabowo, they have the potential to thwart the peace process in Palestine, which borders Egypt and Israel.
Prabowo expressed his vigilance towards the potential failure of the peace process in the Gaza Strip between Palestine and Israel. "Of course, we must be alert to groups that always seek to sabotage a comprehensive settlement. Certainly, there are those from all sides," said Prabowo after the inaugural meeting of the Peace Council in Washington D.C., United States on Thursday, February 19, 2026 local time.
According to Prabowo, peace in Gaza can only be achieved with a two-state solution. He said that Indonesia wants to advocate for that solution by becoming a member of the Board of Peace initiated by U.S. President Donald Trump.
Prabowo claims he is determined to achieve success through the Board of Peace for the people of Palestine. "We are certainly committed; earlier, several Muslim countries reaffirmed our commitment to truly achieve lasting peace," he said.
Currently, Indonesia is preparing about 8,000 Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) troops to be deployed to the Gaza Strip, Palestine, through the ISF. The ISF is planned to operate under the direction of the Board of Peace and approved by the United Nations Security Council through Resolution 2803 on November 17, 2025.
At the first meeting of the Board of Peace on Thursday, Trump appreciated the presence of representatives from member countries, including Prabowo. He stated that the countries joining the board not only contribute money but also are willing to send personnel to maintain the ceasefire in Gaza.
Trump then mentioned Indonesia as one of the countries that will send troops to Gaza. "Indonesia, thank you very much, Indonesia. This is a great country," said Trump.
