TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto has issued a strong warning to central and regional government officials against engaging in corruption while managing the Sumatra disaster relief efforts, emphasizing the critical need for state funds in disaster management.
"I remind you that there should be no embezzlement, no corruption in all government entities. This is crucial evidence. We need every capability, we need every penny to face and overcome the people's difficulties," said Prabowo during a coordination meeting in Aceh on Sunday, December 7, 2025, as monitored on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel.
The Head of State specifically instructed the police to oversee the performance of regional governments and investigate any suspected corruption, particularly instances of price inflation (mark-ups) related to relief efforts.
"So the police need to inspect the regional administrations, note if there are any misconduct, price inflation, and so on," Prabowo asserted.
The former Defense Minister stressed that he would not hesitate to take action against anyone caught seeking personal gain from the tragedy. "I will take very firm action. Do not seek benefits in the midst of the people's suffering," he warned.
Coordination and Restoration Efforts
Prabowo led the coordination meeting on handling the floods and landslides in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra after personally inspecting the affected areas in Aceh Province earlier that day.
The meeting was held at the Integrated Disaster Management Post at Sultan Iskandar Muda Air Force Base in Aceh on Sunday night. Prabowo conveyed to his staff his direct observations from Bireuen Regency, Aceh, where he witnessed the construction of bailey bridges being carried out by the Ministry of Public Works and the Indonesian National Armed Forces.
"I saw that the work is also progressing well. It is expected that within a week it can be operational so that the next bridges can start to be opened," Prabowo said when opening the meeting.
Prabowo, who was visiting Aceh for the second time since the flash floods and landslides struck on November 25, 2025, emphasized the government's commitment to mobilizing all available capabilities to quickly restore logistical access and community movement.
"All efforts are being mobilized. Later, all our bridges will be repaired. Hopefully, within one to two weeks. Because the problem is once this is passable, only then can we do other work," he concluded.
