TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto visits Beijing, China, at the invitation of President Xi Jinping. Prabowo is set to attend the Chinese military parade on Wednesday, September 3, 2025.
Accompanied by Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, Prabowo departed from the Indonesian Air Force Base Ops Halim Perdanakusuma, Jakarta, on Tuesday night, September 2, 2025. Before his departure, President Prabowo was seen off by several Indonesian Armed Forces officials and members of the Red and White Cabinet, including the State Secretary Minister, Prasetyo Hadi, who is also the Spokesperson for the President of Indonesia.
"Tonight, Bapak President Prabowo Subianto departed for Beijing, China, at the invitation of President Xi, who has been expecting his presence since August 31. However, due to the domestic dynamics, President Prabowo decided to postpone his departure," said State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi during his official statement at the Base Ops Halim Perdanakusuma, Jakarta, on Tuesday night, as cited from Antara.
Prasetyo mentioned that President Prabowo is scheduled to return to the country directly on Wednesday night, after attending the Chinese military parade in the morning. Prabowo, through Prasetyo Hadi, had announced the cancellation of his visit to China following the recent riots in Jakarta and other cities.
Chinese President Xi Jinping invited President Prabowo to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) High-Level Conference on August 31-September 1, 2025, in Tianjin. The event was then followed by a military parade to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War in Beijing on September 3.
However, President Prabowo decided not to attend the SCO conference. The Foreign Minister, Sugiono, will represent him.
Prasetyo explained the reasons behind the President's decision to visit China. He stated that the security situation in the country has returned to normal, as well as the lives of people in previously troubled areas have returned to normalcy.
"Today, he has been monitoring the situation and received reports from all related authorities that the lives of the people have started to return to normal," said Prasetyo Hadi.
The Chinese government also highly anticipated Prabowo's attendance at the military parade in Beijing. "Therefore, to maintain good relations with the Chinese government, the President decided to depart tonight and will return to the country tomorrow night," said Prasetyo.
