TEMPO.CO, Jakarta Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has once again summoned several members of the Red and White Cabinet to Hambalang, Bogor, West Java, on Tuesday, January 27, 2026. According to the Cabinet Secretary, Teddy Indra Wijaya, the Head of State directly gathered the ministers to delve into the follow-up of strategic cooperation in the higher education sector, especially in the development of human resources.

Teddy also shared this meeting through a post on the Cabinet Secretariat's social media account. Some ministers who appeared in the closed meeting included Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, and Higher Education, Research, and Technology Minister Brian Yuliarto.

"The meeting focused on discussing the development of educational cooperation between Indonesia and several renowned universities in the United Kingdom (UK)," said Teddy through a written statement.

Teddy stated that during the discussion, Minister Brian conveyed that the partners responded positively to President Prabowo's efforts to establish 10 campuses in the fields of health and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. The construction of these campuses is carried out through collaboration with top universities in the United Kingdom.

Prior to this, during the visit to the United Kingdom last week, Prabowo explored cooperation in the field of education with several universities.

During the UK-Indonesia Education Roundtable at Lancaster House on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, President Prabowo met with several government officials and high-ranking university officials from the UK.

Representatives from prestigious university groups under the Russell Group attended the meeting. Some of the universities involved were the University of Birmingham, University of Cambridge, University of Edinburgh, University of Glasgow, Imperial College London, and the University of Oxford.

Prabowo expressed his desire for universities in the UK to establish campuses in Indonesia with international standards and to use English as the language of instruction. "I want to use English standards, namely the highest educational standards from the best universities in the UK," said Prabowo in a written statement from the Presidential Secretariat on Wednesday, January 21, 2026.

Prabowo mentioned that universities from the UK have already established cooperation with several Indonesian campuses, such as the University of Indonesia and Gadjah Mada University. Prabowo mentioned that some UK universities have also opened campuses in Indonesia. For example, King's College London in Singhasari, Malang, East Java, and Deakin Lancaster University in Bandung, West Java.

Prabowo considers this educational cooperation in the field of science and technology to be in line with Indonesia's needs. "So we want to accelerate, we want to catch up, we must have the highest level of education, equivalent to the best in the world," said the Chairperson of the Gerindra Party.
