TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto and King Abdullah II of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan emphasized the close relationship between Indonesia and Jordan during a bilateral meeting on Wednesday, February 25, 2026. The meeting took place at the Basman Palace in Amman, Jordan.
To King Abdullah II, Prabowo expressed his happiness at visiting Jordan again. "For me, it is always very pleasant to come to my second home here. I feel that we have known each other for several decades," Prabowo said in Jordan on Wednesday afternoon.
The King of Jordan and President Prabowo are both alumni of the United States Army Ranger School at Fort Benning. They first met on December 4, 1995, at the inauguration of Prabowo as the Commander of the Special Forces Command (Kopassus).
Prabowo went into exile in Jordan after his military career ended in 1998. He discussed his decision to go to Jordan via his X account on February 26, 2014. "In the middle of 1998, I was accused of various things. Therefore, I chose to exile myself to Jordan," Prabowo tweeted on his X account @prabowo.
Meanwhile, King Abdullah II ascended to the throne in 1999, while Prabowo was eventually inaugurated as President of Indonesia on October 20, 2024.
This trip marks Prabowo’s second visit to Jordan since assuming the presidency. Upon his arrival for a prior visit on April 13, 2025, Prabowo was personally greeted by King Abdullah II at the Marka Military Airport in Amman. In a gesture of close friendship, Prabowo was even driven by Abdullah II to his designated hotel.
On November 14-15, 2025, King Abdullah II made a return visit to Indonesia. On Saturday, November 15, 2025, President Prabowo and King Abdullah II witnessed a demonstration of collaborative drone capabilities between the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the Jordanian Armed Forces at the Djamsuri AU Firing Range in Jakarta.
During the meeting yesterday, King Abdullah II also stated that Jordan is Prabowo's second home. "It's always nice to meet you, especially in your second home in Jordan. I know that my people, your people, know that we have a very special brotherly relationship between us for years," said King Abdullah II.
In addition to addressing bilateral closeness, King Abdullah II expressed appreciation for Indonesia's efforts in pushing for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. "I know how committed you are to a two-state solution, how much you value the future of the Palestinian people," said King Abdullah II.
He also expressed his anticipation for further discussions on this issue, including ways to help fellow Muslims in Gaza resolve the conflict.
