TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto announced that all political parties within the House of Representatives (DPR) have come to a unanimous agreement to revoke some allowances for House members and will be imposing a moratorium on overseas work visits.

The statement was made by the head of state and party leaders at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Sunday, August 31, 2025.

Those present included the Speaker of the House Puan Maharani, the Speaker of the Regional Representative Council (DPD) Sultan Bachtiar Najamudin, and the Speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Ahmad Muzani.

Meanwhile, the party heads include the chair of Golkar Party Bahlil Lahadalia; the Chair of the Democratic Party Faction Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono; the Chair of the National Mandate Party (PAN) Zulkifli Hasan; the Chair of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) Megawati Soekarnoputri; the Chair of the NasDem Party Surya Paloh; the Chair of the National Awakening Party (PKB) Muhaimin Iskandar; and the Secretary-General of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) Muhammad Kholid.

Prabowo also said the party leaders have taken strict measures against House members who made inaccurate statements, including revoking their DPR memberships.

"Furthermore, the House leaders said they will revoke some policies, including the size of their allowances and put a moratorium on overseas work visits," said Prabowo.

Party leaders also asked their respective faction heads to remain sensitive and prioritize the people's interests.

Party Leaders Make Concessions

Previously, the chair of theNational Awakening Party, Muhaimin Iskandar, said his side has agreed to evaluate the DPR housing allowances, which sparked waves of protests in various cities in Indonesia for the past week.

The Coordinating Minister for Social Empowerment said the massive protests had become an opportunity for lawmakers and the government to evaluate and make reforms, as well as listen to public demands.

Echoing PKB's move, the deputy chair of the Democratic Party, Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono, said his party would evaluate the public's demand to cancel the DPR RI housing allowances.

"Of course, we agree and are united in the belief that everything related to state finances must be genuinely used for the people's interests," said Ibas upon arriving at the Presidential Palace.

The Gerindra Party and the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) factions had previously stated that they would cancel various DPR allowances. The Chair of the Gerindra Party Faction in the DPR, Budisatrio Djiwandono, said his faction had noticed the public complaints and was "ready to review and cancel these allowances," he said as quoted by Antara.

Budisatrio also instructed all members of the Gerindra Party Faction in the DPR not to embark on overseas work visits. He ordered all members of his faction to stay in Indonesia, to make direct communication, and understand the ongoing public unrest.

Meanwhile, the PDIP faction requested the cessation of housing allowances for DPR members and other unreasonably excessive facilities. The Chair of the PDIP Central Executive Board, Said Abdullah, stated that the PDIP faction in the DPR viewed politics not merely as rationality and agreements, but as something that must embody ethics, empathy, and sympathy at all times.
