TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian national team conducted its second training session in preparation for the match against Bahrain in the ongoing third round of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers in the Asian zone at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK), Jakarta on Tuesday, March 25, 2025. A total of 28 players trained at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium on Sunday, March 23, 2025, at 8 p.m.
Indonesian national team coach Patrick Kluivert said his players were enthusiastic and carried out the training as expected after being defeated by Australia 1-5. He also admitted to having met Bahrain when he was managing the Curacao national team. "Bahrain is a very good team. We have to respect that. But most importantly, we need to focus on the Indonesian national team. Currently, the players' mental strength is very strong," he told the media during the training session at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium, Jakarta on Sunday, March 23, 2025.
Patrick is convinced of the quality of the Indonesian national team's performance. He assessed that during the match against Australia, the Garuda squad was superior. Although, according to the Dutch coach, the result did not meet expectations. "We lost, a very disappointing result. Everyone knows that. But now we have to focus on the match against Bahrain," he said.
Kluivert said that Ole Romeny and his teammates were able to attack Australia in the first 20 minutes. He emphasized that if Kevin Diks' penalty had been successful, the match result would have been different. "Unfortunately, the penalty did not go in. Now we have to focus again on Bahrain and try to think positively. We believe that we will get the best result against Bahrain," he said.
He also emphasized that he is not worried at all about losing three points against Bahrain because he believes that they can win the match. "Without the belief to win, it's difficult to win. This is a very important match. I think the match will be very intense in the next two days," he said.
Regarding Bahrain's 0-2 loss to Japan, for Patrick Kluivert, it benefits the Indonesian national team. "It's good for us, the Indonesian team. Japan was able to win against Bahrain and now it's our turn to win against Bahrain," he said.
In the second training session in preparation for facing Australia tonight, only Mees Hilgers and Egy Maulana Vikri were absent. Both are confirmed to be injured and unable to strengthen the Indonesian national team. Meanwhile, Ole Romeny and Sandy Walsh, who were absent in the previous training, have joined the training with 26 other players.
