TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - North Korea has rejected a United States warning about alleged cyber threats from Pyongyang, calling the accusations an attempt to damage the country's image, the KCNA news agency reported, citing Moscow's RIA Novosti, on Tuesday.
The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the U.S. State Department, and partners from several countries previously issued a joint warning regarding alleged threats from North Korean information technology experts.
A North Korean Foreign Ministry spokesperson dismissed the accusations, calling them a political propaganda attempt to tarnish Pyongyang's reputation.
As reported by ANTARA, North Korea accused the U.S. and its allies of trying to tarnish its international reputation by exaggerating cyber threats. A spokesperson for the North Korean Foreign Ministry, quoted by KCNA, said Washington and its partners had issued a joint warning about the "so-called cyber threat" posed by Pyongyang in an effort to damage the country's image.
According to the ministry spokesperson, repeated claims that certain countries are associated with multilateral sanctions monitoring groups constitute the spread of false information. The North Korean Foreign Ministry stated that the U.S. policy had actually turned cyberspace into an arena for confrontation and secret war.
Pyongyang also said cyber operations in U.S. and allied military exercises were part of preparations for war.
The North Korean Foreign Ministry further assessed that the U.S. accusations regarding cyber threats from other countries were baseless and merely an excuse to justify illegal pressure on a sovereign country.
According to North Korea, the U.S. itself monopolizes key resources in cyberspace and has the world's largest cyber capabilities.
