TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - What does it feel like to live on the planet Mars? For those curious, Mongolia will have a new space tourism destination for those who want to experience life on Mars. The tourism project is being built in the Gobi Desert, a remote area known for its rugged terrain and unique flora and fauna.
Named Mars-V, this space camp is touted as the most ambitious and stunning tourism project of the decade. Scheduled to open in 2029, the Mars-V camp is a space simulation center that allows participants to experience life on Mars. For the first time ever, this camp will offer a simulated living experience on another planet with extreme temperatures and stunning landscapes.
Reported by Travel and Tour World, the Mars-V Camp is being developed through collaboration between Mongolia's non-governmental organizations, MARS-V, and several government institutions. The project designed to replicate the living conditions on Mars is located deep within the harsh environment of the Gobi Desert. The camp will be equipped with bunk beds, space suits, and other necessary equipment to recreate Mars-like conditions as closely as possible.
A Month-long Experience at Mars-V
Visitors to the Mars-V camp will undergo survival challenges for a month, experiencing some of the difficulties astronauts might face during a mission to Mars. These challenges include living in extremely cold conditions, navigating the Mars simulation terrain, and facing simulated sandstorms. While attempting this experience, tourists will wear space suits designed to protect them from harsh conditions and provide an insight into life on another planet.
The camp also aims to educate visitors about the scientific and technological challenges of space exploration, raising awareness of the Mars mission, space travel, and the future of human habitation beyond Earth. This immersive experience is designed to inspire future generations of scientists, engineers, and explorers while providing a once-in-a-lifetime adventure for those interested in space and extreme survival scenarios.
Promoting Tourism in Mongolia
Mongolia is beginning to develop tourism as a driver of economic growth and international tourism. In 2022, the East Asian mainland nation launched the Welcome to Mongolia campaign to diversify its tourism offerings by introducing innovative and unique experiences. This campaign includes improvements to the visa system, an expansion of international flight routes, and infrastructure enhancements in remote areas. These enhancements are crucial for projects like the Mars-V camp.
In addition to promoting this camp, the government is also exploring other forms of innovative tourism, such as ecotourism and adventure tourism, to create a more diverse and sustainable tourism portfolio.
