Minnesota: Trump Wants 'Honorable' Probe into Pretti Killing

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - U.S. President Donald Trump said he'd like to see a "very honorable and honest" investigation into the killing of protester Alex Pretti, who was shot by ICE agents in Minneapolis.

"I'm going to watch over it, and I want a very honorable and honest investigation. I have to see it myself," Trump said.

This represents a turnaround in Trump's approach towards the incident, after previously defending the federal agents and their operational methods.

At the same time, even some Republican politicians pushed back on federal agents' tactics after the shooting, which was documented and widely shared on social media.

Pretti was the second U.S. citizen to be killed by ICE's crackdown on immigration in Minnesota.

U.S. President Donald Trump's administration will look to "de-escalate a little bit" when it comes to the situation in Minnesota, where two U.S. citizens have been killed by federal agents, triggering protests.

"I don't think it's a pullback, it's a little bit of a change," Trump told Fox News.

This comes after the president said he'd like to see a "very honorable and honest" investigation into the killing of ICU nurse Alex Pretti, which he labeled "very sad."

"I'm going to be watching over it," Trump said.

The U.S. president also said Pretti should not have been carrying a gun or fully loaded magazines,

"He had a gun. I don't like that. He had two fully loaded magazines. That's a lot of bad stuff. ‌And despite that, I'd say that's ... very unfortunate," Trump said.

Pretti is a licensed concealed-weapons holder.

Bystander video of Pretti's killing showed he never touched his gun before being
shot. It contradicted some Trump officials' initial claims that he posed a threat to law enforcement.
