TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister of Human Development and Culture Pratikno visited Jakarta Cathedral on Christmas Eve, Wednesday, December 24, 2025. During his visit, Pratikno conveyed greetings from President Prabowo Subianto to the worshipers.
Pratikno, along with several officials, reviewed Jakarta Cathedral before the Christmas Eve mass. "We are here to convey greetings from the President and on behalf of the government, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2025," said Pratikno at Jakarta Cathedral, Sawah Besar, Central Jakarta on Wednesday, December 24, 2025.
During the visit, Pratikno said that Prabowo emphasized that people were still celebrating Christmas in areas affected by disasters, including Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. Pratikno stated that the government will continue to strive for the quick recovery of disaster victims.
Pratikno attended the Christmas Eve Mass, accompanied by National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo and Indonesian National Armed Forces Commander General Agus Subiyanto. Additionally, Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Djamari Chaniago, Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian, and Governor of Jakarta Pramono Anung Wibowo participated. Cardinal Ignatius Suharyo, the Archbishop of Jakarta, welcomed the delegation of officials.
During his visit, the National Police Chief conveyed that hundreds of thousands of security personnel participated in securing this year's Christmas celebration across Indonesia. "The police have deployed approximately 147,000 joint personnel," said Listyo Sigit at Jakarta Cathedral.
According to Sigit, the police were assisted by the military and social organizations in securing this year's Christmas. Some of the organizations cooperating with the police included the Multipurpose Ansor Front (Banser) and Muhammadiyah Youth Readiness Command.
Sigit mentioned that the joint security efforts demonstrated the unity of the people during the Christmas season. "How the entire community, national elements, come together without distinguishing between religions, all united to help provide a sense of security," he said.
Jakarta Cathedral prepared approximately 5,000 seats for the Christmas Eve mass on Wednesday, December 24, 2025. The church, located in Sawah Besar, Central Jakarta, will hold two masses on Christmas Eve.
In response to public enthusiasm, Jakarta Cathedral increased its visitor capacity. On a normal day, the capacity of Jakarta Cathedral is 800 visitors.
