TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Railink, the operator of KAI Bandara (Airport Train) in Medan, Indonesia, is prepared to serve passengers during the Christmas and New Year (Nataru) travel season, which will take place from December 18 to January 4, 2026. The operations will include 24 trips of the Srilelawangsa train from Medan to Kualanamu (round trip), 17 trips from Medan to Binjai (round trip), and 3 trips from Medan to Kualabingai.
"The total trips during the Nataru period will consist of 792 trips with a seating capacity of 277,632, or an average of 15,424 passengers per day," said PT Railink's President Director Porwanto Handry Nugroho at Medan Station on Monday, December 22, 2025.
Porwanto stated that KAI Bandara is committed to providing safe, comfortable, and reliable transportation services for people traveling during the holiday season. They have taken various preparedness measures, starting from safety aspects to passenger service and comfort.
"We want to ensure that all journeys during the Nataru period run smoothly and provide the best experience for customers," he said.
As part of the operational safety preparations, KAI Bandara collaborated with the Directorate General of Railways (DJKA) and the Ministry of Transportation to conduct a ramp check in early December. KAI Bandara has added eight Customer Services Mobile officers at Medan Station, Binjai Station, and Kualanamu Station to assist with passenger information and services.
"Based on projections, the passenger volume during the Nataru holiday is estimated to reach 242 thousand people, an increase of 0.88 percent compared to the same period the previous year, which was 240,000 people. The peak passenger volume is predicted to occur on January 1, 2026, with 15,000 people," Porwanto said.
KAI Bandara also introduced various programs to enhance the comfort and holiday atmosphere for passengers at the stations. They have thematic Christmas decorations, joyful entertainment from December 19 to 31, and live music on December 25 to 26. The Christmas Care program includes free health checks, blood donation, and the distribution of free healthy kits in collaboration with strategic partners.
For easy access, KAI Bandara tickets can be purchased through the KAI Bandara Application, the Access by KAI Application, the official website www.railink.co.id, and vending machines available at departure stations. The earliest departure schedule from Medan Station to Kualanamu is at 05:20 AM, and the last departure from Kualanamu to Medan is available until 09:10 PM.
"We urge passengers to take care of their belongings during the journey. If any items are lost or found by our staff, the company provides a lost and found service. Passengers are also encouraged to arrive early, three hours before international departures and two hours before domestic departures," said PT Railink's Corporate Secretary VP Supriyanto.
With the various preparations made, Supriyanto hopes that KAI Bandara becomes a safe, comfortable, and punctual transportation choice for people during the Christmas and New Year holidays.
