TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The English Premier League football club, Manchester City, secured a convincing 3-0 victory over Manchester United in the Manchester derby during the fourth week at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday night (WIB). The match marked the debut of City's new goalkeeper, Gianluigi Donnarumma, who delivered a stellar performance. Erling Haaland scored two goals for City, while the remaining goal was netted by Phil Foden.
The result elevated City to eighth place with six points, while United remained in 14th position after winning once, drawing once, and losing twice out of four matches.
City surged ahead from kick-off. Just 23 seconds into the game, Haaland came close to opening the scoring, but his shot veered off target. City's first goal came in the 17th minute through a header by Phil Foden, capitalizing on a cross from Jeremy Doku who infiltrated United's penalty box.
In the 24th minute, Doku threatened again with a move on the right flank. He provided a cross to Tijjani Reijnders, but Reijnders' shot was blocked by United's goalkeeper, Altay Bayindir. United nearly equalized in the 33rd minute through a golden opportunity by Benjamin Sesko, but Donnarumma made a crucial save. The first half ended 1-0 in City's favor.
In the second half, United pressed forward, but City extended their lead in the 53rd minute through Haaland's shot after receiving a pass from Doku. Two minutes later, Haaland almost scored again, but his attempt struck the post.
United tried to fight back. Bryan Mbeumo posed a significant threat, but Donnarumma's brilliant saves in the 60th and 67th minutes thwarted United's chances. City's third goal came in the 68th minute, again through Haaland, who capitalized on a mistake in Luke Shaw's pass from a counterattack.
Although the visitors had several golden opportunities through Mbeumo and Casemiro in the final minutes, their finishing touches were not optimal. City almost added another goal through Reijnders in the 75th minute, but his shot went wide.
This victory reinforced City's dominance in the Manchester derby and showcased Donnarumma's impressive debut performance.
