TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Malaysia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Mohamad Alamin said the country will pressure United Nations member states to take Israel to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) over its actions in Gaza.
Alamin made the remarks during a State Council session in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, responding to a question from Senator Hussin Ismail on the government’s concrete steps regarding the conflict.
“Malaysia will urge the community between nations to work together to bring the Israeli zionist regime to court (International Court),” Alamin said, as quoted by Antara.
He added that Malaysia would continue to call for firm action by the UN Security Council to stop what he described as the oppression and brutality of Israel against Palestinians. Alamin condemned Israel’s use of starvation as a weapon of war, labeling it a war crime.
He emphasized that these calls will be reiterated by Malaysia during the 80th UN General Assembly in New York at the end of September.
According to Gaza’s Ministry of Health, at least 63,746 Palestinians have been killed since Israel launched its war on Gaza in October 2023, Anadolu reported on Wednesday. In the past 24 hours alone, 113 bodies were brought to hospitals and 304 others were injured, raising the total number of casualties to 161,245.
The ministry also reported that Israeli forces opened fire on Palestinians seeking humanitarian aid at a U.S.-run aid center, killing 33 people and wounding more than 141 others in the last day. Since May 27, a total of 2,339 Palestinians have died and over 17,070 have been injured while attempting to obtain aid.
Six more Palestinians, including a child, also died from malnutrition and starvation in the past 24 hours, bringing the total starvation-related deaths since October 2023 to 367, including 131 children.
Since March 2, Israel has closed all border crossings into Gaza, leaving its 2.4 million residents facing acute hunger. A UN-supported food security assessment has confirmed famine in northern Gaza, warning that it could spread to the south by the end of September. This marks the first famine recorded outside Africa.
Dr. Muneer Alboursh, Director-General of Gaza’s Ministry of Health, said that Israeli attacks since August 13 have killed more than 1,100 people and injured 6,008 in Gaza City alone. He accused Israel of systematically targeting hospitals, ambulances, and residential areas, which has destroyed thousands of homes and public facilities.
Israel’s ongoing assault, which intensified on March 18, has killed 11,615 people and injured 49,204 others, derailing ceasefire talks and a prisoner exchange agreement reached in January.
