TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.7 has rattled the Central Sungkai region in North Lampung Regency, Lampung, on Thursday morning, August 28, at 09:15 a.m. local time.
Director of the Earthquake and Tsunami Center at the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), Daryono, said the offshore tremor, had a medium depth of 184 kilometers.
"It does not have the potential to cause a tsunami," he said in a written statement shortly after the earthquake.
According to Daryono, this earthquake was triggered by plate rock deformation with oblique thrust movement. The M4.7 tremor was felt in the cities of Panaragan, West Sungkai, Central Sungkai, North Sungkai, Kotabumi District, North Lampung, and Pringsewu City, with an intensity scale of III MMI. Meaning, the earthquake's vibrations were felt inside homes, akin to trucks passing by.
The impact of the quake also spread to Agung City with a II-III MMI scale. "So far, there have been no reports of damage caused by the earthquake," said Daryono.
The BMKG has confirmed that there have been no aftershocks until 09:23 a.m. Daryono urged the public to remain calm. "Do not be influenced by unverified information," he said.
