TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that the rain in Jakarta today, Wednesday, January 28, 2026, will be light. Earlier this morning, the rainfall had already begun to fall in parts of North and East Jakarta before spreading to the rest of the city.
BMKG provides the same weather forecast for the surrounding areas of Jakarta. Almost all regions in Greater Jakarta are expected to experience light rain today, with the exception of Bogor Regency and City, where thunderstorms are expected.
The surrounding areas of Jakarta have already experienced rainfall earlier today. According to BMKG's early weather warning information from 4-7 AM, the rain has extended from Bogor Regency, Bekasi Regency, Bogor City, Bekasi City, to Depok City.
Despite the reduced intensity and coverage of rainfall compared to last week, Jakarta and its surrounding areas still need to be on alert today. According to BMKG, there is still potential for heavy to very heavy rainfall in Jakarta today. Jakarta, along with Banten and East Java, is on alert.
According to BMKG, as cited from the Weekly Weather Outlook for January 27 - February 02, the weather conditions in Indonesia in the coming week will continue to be influenced by the Asian monsoon activity, among other factors. The monsoon activity, which is closely related to the rainy season in Indonesia, is predicted to persist until the first 10 days of February.
In addition, the Cross Equatorial Northerly Surge (CENS) is also expected to remain active in the coming days. The cold air mass from Asia crossing the equator meets with the air mass from the southern hemisphere, forming elongated cloud patterns due to tropical convergence or the InterTropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ).
"The cloud patterns formed in the ITCZ extend from the western Indian Ocean off Bengkulu, the southern part of Sumatra, Java, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, to the Arafura Sea," according to BMKG.
BMKG also revealed that in the coming week, a low-pressure area is likely to form in the southern Indian Ocean off Banten, the Gulf of Carpentaria, and the northwest coast of Australia, which can create a deceleration zone (convergence) in the southern part of Indonesia.
"With relatively humid and unstable atmospheric conditions, significant weather conditions are still likely to occur in parts of Indonesia, particularly the southern part of Sumatra, Java, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, West Kalimantan, South Sulawesi, and the Papua Highlands," BMKG added.
