TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has summoned former Head of Bank Indonesia’s Communications Department, Erwin Haryono (EH), for questioning. KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo said he was called as a witness in the investigation into alleged corruption involving social program funds from Bank Indonesia and the Financial Services Authority (OJK).
"The questioning will take place at the KPK’s Red and White Building," Budi said in a written statement on Monday, June 2.
Last week, on May 26, the KPK also questioned Irwan, Deputy Director of BI’s Legal Department. Irwan previously headed a division in the Communications Department, which handled relations with Commission XI of the House of Representatives.
The KPK uncovered problems in how Bank Indonesia and OJK spent their social program funds, saying they were not used as intended. Director of Investigations Asep Guntur Rahayu said the funds were allegedly misused for personal gain rather than for social purposes.
"The issue is when CSR funds aren’t used for their intended purpose. For instance, if there are 100 units of funds, only 50 are used properly, and the rest are not. That remaining portion may then be used for personal gain," Asep said at the KPK Red and White Building in South Jakarta on September 18, 2024.
He said that the CSR funds were supposed to support social initiatives and infrastructure projects, but instead went toward inappropriate uses. "If the money had been used properly, there wouldn’t be an issue," he added.
KPK Chair Setyo Budiyanto said the case is progressing smoothly and that an investigation order (sprindik) was already in place.
"No issues so far. The sprindik was issued beforehand," he said on April 30, 2025.
He added that the order was issued before he became KPK Chair on December 5, 2024, and that the case started coming to light around September last year.
Setyo said the KPK is continuing the investigation and working toward naming suspects. "Since the sprindik was issued before our leadership, we’re reviewing everything now. When the time is right, the investigators and enforcement team will take the next steps," he said.
