TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Digital urged citizens to avoid spreading hate speech or provocation on social media, following plans for a protest in Jakarta on August 27, 2026.

The ministry's Director General of Digital Space Supervision, Alexander Sabar, called for a responsible use of social media

"Of course, we hope those who use social media will use it responsibly, and will refrain from hate speech or incitement," said Alexander when met at the ministry office in Jakarta on Wednesday.

He urged the public to use social media wisely to maintain a conducive situation in the digital space.

"We hope that tomorrow's activity will run smoothly, not only in the physical space but also in our digital space," said Alexander.

The United Pati Community Alliance (AMPB) emphasized that the protest held in front of the Indonesian parliament complex in Jakarta on Thursday, August 27, will be peaceful and focus on two demands related to the eradication of corruption.

AMPB Coordinator, Supriyono, also known as Botok, stated that the two demands include the immediate ratification of the Asset Seizure Bill and the implementation of the death penalty for corruptors.

"We came to Jakarta with no intention of causing unrest. We support the movement of our peers in Greater Jakarta who will hold a demonstration on August 27th," said Botok.

He emphasized that the AMPB protest did not intend to oust President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka. "We support Prabowo's government to improve," he said.

According to him, AMPB came to Jakarta to convey the people's aspirations regarding corruption eradication and to support the protests held across Greater Jakarta.
