TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) recorded 13 eruptions from Mount Anak Krakatau in South Lampung Regency, Lampung Province.
The height of the eruptions varied from 50 to 300 meters from the summit of Mount Anak Krakatau, from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Jakarta time.
Suwarno, Head of the Mount Anak Krakatau Monitoring Post in Hargopancuran, Rajabasa District, stated on Wednesday that the volcano remains volatile, so further eruptions are still possible.
"From noon until the afternoon, 13 eruption earthquakes were recorded, with amplitudes of 47-56 mm and durations of 20-173 seconds," he said.
He explained that the increased volcanic activity continues to be intensively monitored through visual and instrumental observations to determine the ongoing development of the volcano.
"The eruption was recorded in volcanic tremor with an amplitude of 4-60 millimeters," he said.
According to him, the increased volcanic activity that occurred in early July was the basis for the Geological Agency to raise the volcanic activity status of Mount Anak Krakatau from Alert Level II to Alert Level III.
However, the volcano's activity remains within the monitoring range, with mitigation measures implemented according to PVMBG recommendations.
Residents, tourists, and fishers alike are advised to refrain from activities within a two-kilometer radius recommended by volcanology authorities to avoid risks posed by eruptions and volcanic material ejections.
Furthermore, fishers operating in the waters around the Sunda Strait are also asked to monitor official information regarding Mount Anak Krakatau's activity and weather conditions before going out to sea.
Residents are advised not to be easily influenced by unverified information and to only refer to official information provided by authorized institutions.
