Dedi Mulyadi Tops Prabowo in 2029 Presidential Electability: Tempo Survey

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A survey by Tempo Data Science on voter preferences ahead of the 2029 General Electionplaced West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi, widely known as KDM, at the top of a list of eight potential national leaders.

Mulyadi secured an electability rating of 42 percent, followed by President Prabowo Subianto in second place with 15 percent. Former Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan ranked third with 10 percent, while Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka came fourth with 6 percent.

“The decline in satisfaction with the government’s performance has had a direct impact on the dynamics of national leadership preferences,” Tempo Data Science General Manager Khairul Anam said during the survey launch in Central Jakarta on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.

Two figures shared fifth place, with Maluku Governor Sherly Tjoanda Laos and former Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo each receiving 4 percent.

Democratic Party Chair Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, known as AHY, ranked sixth with 3 percent, followed by former vice presidential candidate Mahfud Md. with 2 percent.

Anam said Mulyadi’s lead was consistent with what respondents identified as the most important quality in choosing a president: being close to the people. According to the survey, 78 percent of respondents associated Mulyadi with being a figure who is close to and willing to listen to the public.

Prabowo, meanwhile, was more strongly associated with the attribute of decisiveness.

Despite Mulyadi’s lead, Anam said voter preferences ahead of the 2029 election remained highly fluid.

“Forty-eight percent of respondents said they may or are very likely to change their choice before election day,” Anam said.

Public Satisfaction with Prabowo-Gibran Government Declines

In an earlier survey measuring public satisfaction with the government’s performance, Tempo Data Science found a significant and consistent decline over the past eight months.

Public satisfaction with the Prabowo-Gibran administration stood at 75 percent in December 2025. The figure fell sharply to 58 percent in March 2026 before dropping further to 37 percent in August 2026.

Anam said growing negative perceptions of the economy were the main factor behind the decline in public satisfaction with the Prabowo-Gibran administration.

The survey found that 68 percent of respondents considered the national economic situation to be poor or worsening.

“The two main problems putting the greatest pressure on people’s daily lives are rising prices of basic necessities and limited job opportunities,” Anam said.

The Tempo Data Science survey was conducted from July 31 to August 11, 2026, involving 1,260 respondents proportionally distributed across Indonesia’s 38 provinces.

The survey used multistage random sampling with a 95 percent confidence level and a margin of error of approximately 2.9 percent.
