TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto has set a target to expand the use of Indonesia’s Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) payment system to member countries of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC).
“Indonesia’s payment digitalization has already reached South Korea, Japan, and parts of the Middle East. We will continue to promote it to other APEC countries,” Airlangga said after attending the APEC Business Council Meeting at the Shangri-La Hotel in Jakarta on Saturday, February 7, 2026.
According to Airlangga, cross-border payment digitalization is a key agenda that Indonesia is actively pursuing. He added that QRIS could streamline trade and tourism transactions between countries across the Asia-Pacific region.
Beyond APEC, Indonesia is also promoting the integration of digital payment systems within ASEAN, aiming to strengthen regional economic connectivity and improve the efficiency of cross-border transactions.
Airlangga emphasized that APEC is a strategic forum, bringing together major global economies, including the United States and China.
Indonesia seeks to ensure that cooperation within APEC is effective and mutually beneficial, including through the development of digital infrastructure.
On trade, the government continues to push for increased exports to APEC member countries. Key sectors include metal commodities, palm oil, and labor-intensive industrial products such as textiles, furniture, apparel, and footwear.
Additionally, Indonesia aims to boost the competitiveness of agricultural and fisheries products, including shrimp, in regional markets.
“These sectors have long been the backbone of our exports and still hold significant potential for growth,” Airlangga said.
