TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries targets an increase in investment in the marine sector after participating in the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, in January 2026. Expert Staff of the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries for Ecology and Marine Resources Hendra Yusran Siry stated that Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono participated as a speaker in the WEF event Velocity of Blue Economy on January 22, 2026.

During the forum, Hendra stated that Sakti explained Indonesia's efforts to protect the sea. Topics discussed included rising water temperatures, rising sea levels, and ocean acidification, all of which could potentially harm marine life. "We hope that there will be an increase in investment in the blue economy, as well as a higher increase," said Hendra at the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries office on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.

Hendra explained that Sakti, the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, signed a letter of intent at the WEF to collaborate on organizing the Ocean Impact Summit, which will be held on June 8-9, 2026, in Bali.

It is hoped that this cooperation agreement will enhance the credibility of the Ocean Impact Summit and provide access to investors through the influence of the WEF. According to Hendra, during the opening of the event, Borge Brende, the president and CEO of WEF, presented on the Ocean Impact Summit.

Chair of the Multilateral Cooperation Team of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Desri Yanti explained that the Ocean Impact Summit aims to shift the narrative of marine conservation towards more of an economic growth source in the maritime and fisheries sector.

The collaboration between the Ocean Impact Summit and WEF, according to Desri, is expected to strengthen Indonesia's leadership in the global maritime and fisheries sector and make Indonesia a global hub for the marine economy. This optimism is also rooted in Indonesia's status as the world's largest archipelagic nation. "With the available resources, we can maximize the economic factor through collaboration or with the resources owned by Indonesia," said Desri.

Lastly, Desri hopes that the Ocean Impact Summit can generate investment commitments and private partnerships in the marine fisheries sector, while also mobilizing financing initiatives for Indonesia's blue economy programs.
