TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s President Prabowo Subianto will make a state visit to Islamabad, Pakistan, on December 8-9, 2025, at the invitation of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.
The trip marks Prabowo’s first visit to Pakistan as president. It also carries symbolic importance, coinciding with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations, which have cooperated closely within ASEAN and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), according to a statement from Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry on Monday, December 8.
During the visit, Prabowo is scheduled to hold high-level talks with Prime Minister Shehbaz. He will also meet President Asif Ali Zardari and military leaders, including the Chief of Army Staff and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, Air Marshal Syed Asim Munir.
Discussions will focus on strengthening bilateral cooperation and expanding collaboration in key sectors such as trade, investment, defense, health, information and technology, climate, education, and culture.
The two sides also aim to boost coordination at regional and global forums, particularly in support of stability across the Indo-Pacific.
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said several memorandums of understanding (MoUs) are expected to be signed during the visit to support broader economic partnership and diversification.
The ministry added that Pakistan and Indonesia share longstanding ties built on common interests and values, and described the visit as an opportunity to deepen a partnership that benefits both countries and their wider regions.
