TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian men’s singles badminton player Alwi Farhan has entered the world’s top 15 for the first time in his career following his title victory at the BWF World Tour Super 500 Daihatsu Indonesia Masters 2026.

In the latest Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings released on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, Alwi climbed four places to 14th, accumulating 59,230 points.

The 20-year-old earned an additional 9,200 points from his Indonesia Masters triumph, marking both his career-high ranking and his first Super 500 title.

According to Antara, Alwi’s rise saw him overtake several established players, including Lu Guang Zu of China, Toma Junior Popov of France, Victor Lai of Canada, and Weng Hong Yang of China.

Breaking into the top 15 had been a short-term goal for Alwi. This ranking bracket is significant, as it grants players “Top Committed” status, which requires participation in all Super 750 and Super 1000 tournaments, at least two Super 500 events, and the BWF World Tour Finals if qualified.

Meanwhile, fellow Indonesian star Anthony Sinisuka Ginting continues his efforts to climb the rankings after a prolonged injury spell. Ginting is currently ranked 63rd, up 13 places, after reaching the second round of the Indonesia Masters 2026.

Another Indonesian player, Moh. Zaki Ubaidillah, also posted gains in the rankings, moving up two spots to 44th with 33,485 points.

At the top of the men’s singles rankings, Shi Yu Qi of China remains world number one with 108,247 points, followed by Kunlavut Vitidsarn of Thailand in second place and Anders Antonsen of Denmark in third. Indonesian ace Jonatan Christie, who did not compete at the Indonesia Masters 2026, holds fourth place.
