TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar has departed for Medina, Saudi Arabia, with the goal of advocating for the establishment of the Hajj museum and Hadith museum in the country. He announced this initiative during his visit to attend the Hadith Foundation Forum, an organization affiliated with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Prior to his departure from the VIP lounge at Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Tangerang, Banten, early Sunday morning, the Minister emphasized the importance of strengthening scholarly cooperation with Saudi Arabia to support this ambitious plan.
"We are bringing several positive proposals. Our aims include building Hajj and Hadith museums in Indonesia, as well as enhancing intellectual ties with Saudi Arabia," Nasaruddin stated, as quoted from an official statement on Sunday, April 27, 2025.
According to him, Indonesia is one of seven countries serving as advisors to the foundation. He noted that the trust bestowed by the Saudi Arabian royal institution presents a strategic opportunity to deepen collaboration in education, culture, and the advancement of Islamic knowledge.
"The most significant aspect is the trust we have earned, as we have become part of the King's institution. This is a highly strategic matter for the future relationship between Indonesia and Saudi Arabia," he remarked.
The construction of Hajj and Hadith museums in Indonesia, according to the Minister, will mark a significant step in enriching Islamic literacy within the nation. These museums are envisioned as centers for education, historical documentation, and the development of Islamic studies grounded in hadith manuscripts and the history of the Hajj pilgrimage.
In addition to participating in scholarly forums during his visit to Medina, the Minister will also oversee the preparations for the Hajj pilgrimage, which is scheduled to commence next week.
