TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has affirmed that Indonesia's contribution to the recovery and reconstruction of Gaza is not obligatory, despite Indonesia being a member of the Board of Peace (BoP). The statement was made by the Second Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Vahd Nabyl Achmad Mulachela, during a press conference at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs office in Central Jakarta on Thursday, February 19, 2026.

Nabyl explained that, as a member of the BoP forum established by former U.S. President Donald Trump, Indonesia is committed to contributing. The mentioned amount is US$1 billion or approximately Rp16 trillion.

However, he emphasized that members are not obligated to pay.

"Regarding the donation, there is indeed no obligation to pay as a BoP member. However, Indonesia does commit to contribute, the goal of which is to aid construction in Gaza," said Nabyl.

According to him, the realization of this contribution will require further discussion of various technical aspects, including the amount of funds, and its implementation will follow national regulations.

He stated that the use of these funds aligns with what the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sugiono, conveyed: financing the recovery and reconstruction of Palestine, which has been affected by conflict.

TNI Budget for ISF Still Under Discussion

Nabyl stated that in addition to the commitment to contribute, the government is also discussing the budget to support the participation of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) in the International Stabilization Force (ISF). Nabyl mentioned that, thus far, discussions regarding the budget and personnel are still in the internal government coordination stage.

"Regarding the budget and the number, it is still under coordination; we have not definitively decided, this is of a numerical nature, still in coordination with the parties handling it," he said. Although there is no final decision yet, he ensured that this participation will have implications for Indonesia's budget.

Prabowo Attends BoP Meeting

Previously, President Prabowo Subianto stated that the inaugural meeting of the Board of Peace, held on Thursday, February 19, 2026, discussed the implementation and continuation of the ceasefire in Gaza.

He conveyed this in a business forum with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, local time, based on information from Prabowo's Media Team.

"The Board of Peace's first official meeting to discuss the implementation and continuation of the ceasefire in Gaza. We continue to strive towards a real and sustainable solution to the Palestinian issue," said Prabowo.

He added that Indonesia consistently pursues an independent and non-aligned foreign policy. "We continue the non-aligned foreign policy, respecting all major powers. I am committed to implementing the 'Good Neighbor Policy'," stated Prabowo.
