TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian athletics team clinched eight golds and one silver at the 86th Singapore Open Track & Field Championships 2026 at the National Stadium in Singapore.
In an official statement in Jakarta on Thursday, Marciano Norman, Chair of the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI), congratulated and commended the athletes trained by the Indonesian Athletics Association (PB PASI), who demonstrated their patriotism in Indonesian athletics.
"This achievement is expected to motivate young athletes and serve as a benchmark for improving their performance to a higher level," he said.
At the championship, which took place from April 15-17, PB PASI fielded a 15-athlete contingent, five coaches, and three support staff.
The athletes performed well, winning a total of nine medals.
North Sumatra athlete Daniel Simanjuntak put in a brilliant performance, winning two gold medals in 5,000 meters (14:35.25) and 10,000 meters (31:20.79).
Next, Yad Hafizudin also clinched gold for the 1,500 meters with a time of 3:54.34. In the field events, Maria Natalia Londa won gold in the triple jump with a jump of 12.94 meters.
Atinna Nurkamila Intan also won gold in the javelin throw with 49.86 meters. Meanwhile, Idan Fauzan Richsan won the pole vault with a 5.00 meters record.
Athlete Novi Anggun Lestari also added gold to the Indonesian team's tally in the women's 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:04.04. Pandu Sukarya also won the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:21.77.
Meanwhile, Maulana Ismail won a silver medal in the 400-meter number with a record of 47.79 seconds.
Marciano said athletics is a strategic sport for Indonesia in every multi-sport event. Therefore, he hopes more athletes from the Indonesian Athletics Federation (PB PASI) will excel on the world stage.
"Hopefully, this achievement will continue in the next international championship. I'm confident that athletics will soon become Indonesia's medal powerhouse," he said.
