TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A dinner with Raffi Ahmad at Sofia at The Gunawarman restaurant in South Jakarta in early 2026 marked the end of a state institution chief executive officer’s (CEO) tenure. The institution had once operated under a legal status used for state enterprises. During a conversation with Raffi, who serves as the President’s Special Envoy for Youth Development and Creative Workers, the head of the state-owned company was asked to step down from a position he had held for nearly six years.
The CEO asked Raffi why he had been told to resign. In response, Raffi said he was relaying a message from a senior official close to President Prabowo Subianto. “I’m just an envoy whose job is to be sent,” Raffi said of his meeting with the head of the state institution in a special interview with Tempo in Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday, August 6, 2026.
Raffi said he was able to meet with ministers and the heads of state-owned enterprises (SEOs) to deliver messages. “I don’t have the authority to decide whether someone keeps their position or not,” he added.
Two state officials and two former heads of SEOs who knew about and had heard firsthand accounts from the CEO who met with Raffi said Raffi had also presented a resignation letter. Raffi asked him to sign it on the spot. According to the four sources, the CEO eventually signed the resignation letter at the Sofia restaurant.
