Hamas: Israel Rejects Deal to Release All Prisoners in Gaza

4 hours ago 3

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Brigade Al Qassam, the armed wing of Hamas, on Friday stated that Hamas had proposed a comprehensive deal to release all Israeli prisoners held in Gaza. The deal, as reported by Al Jazeera, was in exchange for halting the conflict and a complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from the coastal enclave.

In a 20-minute televised address, Abu Obeida, the spokesperson for the al-Qassam Brigade, said the movement had proposed the offer several times over the past few months. "However, the Israeli government rejected the proposal," he said.

"It has become clear to us that the government of the criminal Netanyahu has no real interest in the captives because they are soldiers," Obeida said.

He added that Hamas supports a deal that ensures an end to the war, the withdrawal of Israeli forces, and the entry of humanitarian aid for the besieged Palestinian residents.

Obeida accused Israel of violating previous ceasefire agreements and continuing military attacks in Gaza over the past four months.

Stating that Hamas is ready for a "protracted confrontation," he said the group's current strategy is focused on inflicting losses on Israeli forces. They are launching impactful attacks and attempting to capture more soldiers.

According to Obeida, several kidnapping attempts have been made in recent weeks.

He also criticized what he called the "silence and involvement" of some Arab and Islamic governments, and called on Muslim leaders and scholars to take responsibility for the ongoing humanitarian crisis.

If Israel withdraws from the current round of indirect negotiations held in Qatar, Abu Obeida said Hamas does not guarantee the return of any partial agreements, including the 60-day agreement currently being discussed to release 10 prisoners.

Hamas is still holding 50 people in Gaza, about 20 of whom are believed to still be alive.

Speaking at a dinner with parliament members at the White House on Friday, as reported by Arab News, U.S. President Donald Trump claimed that 10 more prisoners would soon be released from Gaza.

"We got most of the hostages back. We’re going to have another 10 coming very shortly, and we hope to have that finished quickly," Trump said, without providing further details.

The U.S. leader has been claiming for weeks that a ceasefire and prisoner agreement would soon be reached, but nothing has materialized yet.

Since Israel resumed its military campaign in Gaza on March 18, at least 7,843 Palestinians have been killed and 27,933 others injured. Thus, the death toll in Gaza since the outbreak of the conflict in October 2023 stands at a minimum of 58,765 Palestinians, revealed the Gaza Ministry of Health on Saturday, as reported by Anadolu.

A ministry statement mentioned that 98 bodies had been taken to hospitals in the last 48 hours, while 511 people were injured, bringing the total number of injuries to 140,485 people in the intense Israeli attacks.

The ministry said that 14 Palestinians were killed and 94 others injured while attempting to receive humanitarian aid in the last 48 hours, bringing the total number of Palestinians killed in seeking aid to 891 people, with over 5,754 others injured since May 27.
