TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chief Executive Officer Grab Indonesia, Neneng Goenadi, has implemented a work from home (WFH) policy for all of its employees during the recent demonstrations in Jakarta. The remote working scheme follows the directive from the Jakarta Provincial Government, which issued a WFH recommendation for companies affected by the protests.
Neneng stated that Grab Indonesia has started WFH since Friday, August 29, 2025. According to her, the safety of every employee is a priority as the escalation of demonstrations in several areas of Jakarta has heightened. "We will continue WFH until the situation and conditions improve," said Neneng during an online press conference on Sunday, August 31, 2025.
In addition to implementing WFH, Grab Indonesia has launched the Grab Quick Response (Gercep) feature specifically for its driver partners. This feature provides legal assistance services and psychological consultation for driver partners affected by the protests. This service can be accessed starting Tuesday, September 2, 2025.
Neneng explained that the Gercep feature consists of dedicated channels and a help center to assist drivers in obtaining services in emergency situations at demonstration locations. Grab Indonesia also provides real-time notifications to each of their partners regarding high-risk locations.
She stated that every driver partner and employee of Grab Indonesia must receive fair treatment and their rights, including security guarantees when conveying their aspirations to the government. "Seeing a crisis situation like this, we feel the need to provide comprehensive support," she said.
During this press conference, Neneng also expressed condolences as two of their driver partners died as a result of the demonstrations in Jakarta and Makassar. In addition to the fatalities, Grab noted that three of their drivers are still receiving intensive care in Jakarta and Makassar due to injuries sustained during the protests.
The fatalities were Affan Kurniawan, who was killed by a tactical vehicle of the Indonesian National Police Mobile Brigade on Thursday night, August 28, 2025. Then, Rusmadiansyah, who died during the riot in front of UMI Makassar Campus on Friday, August 29, 2025.
As for the three individuals currently receiving intensive care, they are Moh Umar Amarudin at Pelni Hospital Jakarta, Aji at Tarakan Jakarta Regional General Hospital, and Budi Haryadi at Prima Jaya Hospital, Makassar.
Neneng stated the company's commitment to safeguarding the safety and welfare of its driver partners. According to her, these two aspects are the main points of the principles of family and togetherness at Grab Indonesia. "We are not just a company, but also a family walking alongside our driver partners, in joy and sorrow," said Neneng.
