TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Minister of Public Works and Housing, Maruarar Sirait, is preparing housing assistance for victims of the flash flood in Sumatra.
"Currently, the director generals, starting from the Director General of Risk Control Management in North Sumatra, the Director General of Rural Housing in Aceh, to the Director General of Settlement Areas who has just returned from West Sumatra, are still working in the field to map the housing needs of affected communities," said Maruarar or Ara in a statement in Jakarta on Thursday, December 4, 2025.
He emphasized that the Ministry of Public Works and Housing is fully prepared to assist local governments in dealing with the effects of flash flooding in Sumatra.
Although the determination of relocation sites is the authority of local governments, the Ministry of Public Works and Housing is ready to provide technical support to ensure that the decisions made are safe and appropriate. "We assist regional governments with our technical expertise, ensuring that the proposed locations are safe, close to schools, hospitals, markets, and the residents' workplaces," he said.
To expedite housing assistance, the Ministry of Public Works and Housing has prepared a stock of Simple Healthy Instant Houses (RISHA) that can be shipped immediately. "In Medan, there are already more than 400 units on standby, and around 100 units in Bandung. If needed, we are ready to add more according to the needs in the field," Ara said.
He added that cross-ministerial and local government coordination will be carried out promptly in accordance with the direction of Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Sufmi Dasco Ahmad. "We ensure that all steps are taken quickly and coordinated, so that the affected communities can soon acquire safe and decent housing," he added.
Maruarar has sent three director generals from the Ministry of Public Works and Housing to inspect the homes of disaster-affected victims in Sumatra. He has urged his staff to act promptly in the field so that assistance can be implemented promptly.
