TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Entrepreneur from the United States, Elon Musk, becomes the first person in history to have a wealth exceeding US$700 billion or around Rp12,000 trillion, according to a report by Forbes on Friday as quoted by Sky News.
Musk's wealth surged after the Delaware Supreme Court overturned a lower court's ruling that had previously invalidated Tesla's 2018 stock option package owned by Musk, which is now valued at US$139 billion.
Delaware court judge Kathaleen McCormick concluded after a five-day trial that Tesla directors had conflicts of interest and crucial facts were hidden from shareholders when they voted to approve the plan.
However, on Friday, the Delaware Supreme Court ruled that the cancellation of the compensation package left Tesla's head "uncompensated for his time and efforts over a period of six years." The court also stated that McCormick's decision was incorrect and unfair.
Musk has not issued an official statement in response to the restoration of his stock options. However, the South African immigrant stated in a social media post on X, that he was "vindicated".
Forbes estimates that after Musk successfully appealed the decision, his net worth reached a record US$749 billion
He has already become the richest person in the world, and is about US$500 billion richer than the second-richest person, Google co-founder Larry Page, according to the index report.
Previously, Forbes, as quoted by Antara, also declared Musk as the first person with a net worth of over US$600 billion, after SpaceX announced an internal stock offering valuing the company at US$800 billion. In March 2020, Musk's wealth was estimated at US$24.6 billion. Then, in January 2021, he became the richest person in the world, surpassing US$200 billion and US$300 billion in the same year.
In 2024, Musk's wealth again surpassed US$400 billion and US$500 billion.
The only other person besides Musk whose wealth has ever reached US$300 billion and US$400 billion is Larry Ellison, one of the founders of Oracle.
