TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A plenary session of the House of  Representatives (DPR) on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, ratified the nine members of the Indonesian Ombudsman for the 2026-2031 period. House Deputy Speaker Saan Mustopa presided over the high-level decision-making process based on a report from the DPR's Commission II, which was responsible for screening the prospective members.

"Can the report of the DPR's Commission II regarding the suitability test results for prospective members of the Indonesian Ombudsman for the 2026-2031 term be approved?" Saan asked the attending members during the plenary session at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta on Tuesday.

The members responded with a unanimous voice of agreement. Saan then struck the gavel to signify official approval.

Prior to seeking approval from the factions, the Commission II Chairperson, Muhammad Rifqinizamy Karsayuda, read out the results of the suitability and eligibility tests for the prospective Ombudsman members, which were held on January 26, 2026.

According to Rifqinizamy, the selection process was conducted meticulously and democratically, resulting in the appointment of nine Ombudsman members from the pool of 18 screened individuals. The NasDem Party politician also announced the specific names of the leaders and members of the Indonesian Ombudsman for the 2026-2031 term.

"The DPR's Commission II has chosen and appointed Bapak Heri Susanto as the Chairperson of the Indonesian Ombudsman, assisted by Bapak Rahmadi Indra Tektona as the Deputy Chair," he stated.

The full composition of the Ombudsman members for the 2026-2031 period consists of Abdul Ghoffar, Fikri Yasin, Maneger Nasution, Nuzran Joher, Partono, Robertus Na Endi Jaweng, and Syafrida Rachmawati Rasahan.

Previously, Rifqinizamy stated that the 18 names of prospective Ombudsman members were proposed by President Prabowo Subianto. Their names were submitted via Presidential Letter Number R-69/Pres/11/2025. In a copy of the letter obtained by Tempo, the document signed by Prabowo was dated November 20, 2025.

According to him, only the DPR leadership was aware of the reasons why the identities of the 18 prospective members were announced on Wednesday, January 21, 2026. "It is a technical leadership matter; we only received the list of names a few days ago," he remarked on Wednesday.

He emphasized that the House Commission II operated in accordance with the mandate of Law Number 37 of 2008 concerning the Indonesian Ombudsman, as well as the assignment based on Presidential Decree Number 57/P of 2025 regarding the formation of the selection committee for prospective Ombudsman members.
