TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - U.S. President Donald Trump warned on Friday, September 12, 2025, that his patience with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, in ending the war in Ukraine is running out and "running out fast."
"We're going to have to come down very, very strong. It's the only way," Trump said in a TV interview on Fox News.
Anadolu reported that Trump will impose very tough sanctions on banks and related to oil and tariffs. Trump said both Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky are unwilling to come to the negotiating table.
"It's amazing, when Putin wants to do it, (Ukrainian President Volodymyr) Zelensky didn’t. When Zelensky wanted to do it, Putin didn’t. Now Zelensky wants to, and Putin is a question mark," he said.
He also cited previous steps aimed at pressuring India not to import oil from Russia. "India was their biggest customer. I put a 50% tariff on India because they're buying oil from Russia. That's not an easy thing to do. That's a big deal, and it causes a rift with India."
Trump's statement comes after Poland said on Wednesday that its airspace was violated by drones amid overnight airstrikes between Russia and Ukraine, calling the attack an act of aggression. The Russian Defense Ministry denied any intention to attack Polish territory during the strikes. Russia claimed to have targeted a military-industrial complex in western Ukraine's Kyiv.
