TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - For the past few days, Indonesian social media timelines have been filled with the emergence of the Brave Pink Hero Green campaign. Many netizens have changed their social media profile pictures to include these two tones.

One of the creators of the Brave Pink Hero Green campaign, Anang Marjono, stated that the use of pink and green colors was taken from the extensive discourse that has been developing on social media. These two colors are considered to represent the protests that have been taking place in the country over the past week.

"Brave Pink is taken from the color of Mother Ana's headscarf, who protested in front of the DPR (House of Representatives) building last Thursday, and Green Hero is used to honor the late Affan Kurniawan," said Anang when contacted on Wednesday, September 3, 2025.

Mother Ana became the talk of netizens after her photo, wearing a pink headscarf during the protest in front of the DPR building, was seen as reflecting the courage of a mother to voice the truth and concerns among the grassroots.

Meanwhile, Affan was a victim of the Thursday, August 28, protest. This online motorcycle taxi driver was killed by a tactical vehicle of the Mobile Brigade Corps of the Indonesian National Police. Affan's green helmet and jacket are being used in this campaign because they are seen as reflecting the values of struggle.

Anang said that since its creation on Monday, September 1, until today, Wednesday, it has been noted that 3.3 million people have visited the Brave Pink Hero Green generator page that he created. However, he does not know for certain how many users have changed their profile pictures using the Brave Pink Hero Green generator.

"That data is with each user; I only hold analytical data," Anang said.

When contacted separately, Hubertus Ubur, a Sociology Lecturer at Atma Jaya Catholic University in Jakarta, stated that the Brave Pink Hero Green campaign, which has become a popular discourse on social media, is a protest of how sensitive netizens are to the situation in their country.

According to him, this campaign is not only a show of solidarity or a tribute to notable figures; it is also a protest against the country's unsatisfactory state. "This campaign is an alternative for those who cannot directly voice their concerns," Hubertus said.

He noted that the popular Brave Pink Hero Green campaign is similar to the Milk Tea Alliance campaign, which gained traction in Thailand, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. The Milk Tea Alliance was a pro-democracy protest movement against government policies seen as anti-people.

Hubertus stated that the watermelon campaign, which represents the Palestinian flag, is similar to the Brave Pink Hero Green campaign. Both campaigns are intended as a form of public solidarity and protest against perceived unfair policies or events.

How to change your social media profile picture using the Brave Pink Hero Green generator

Anang Marjono stated that since its inception, not many members of the public have been able to access the Brave Pink Hero Green generator due to being unfamiliar with it. Therefore, he has now made it easier by creating a connected step.

He guarantees that the use of the Brave Pink Hero Green generator he created does not involve private data. This is because, in the platform's data browser, the data used is not transferred to other servers.

The steps to use it are as follows:

1. Users can open the page https://brave-pink-hero-green.lovable.app on their respective browsers.

2. Users upload the profile picture that will use the two tones of pink and green.

3. Users can adjust the intensity of the colors as desired.

4. Download the photo with the adjusted color tones, and users can use it as their social media profile picture.
