TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Nusantara Capital City (IKN) Authority claimed over 64,000 people have visited the new capital from March 27 to April 5, 2025, or the Eid holiday season. Besides Indonesia, the visitors came from a number of countries, such as Brunei, Malaysia, China, European countries, and South Korea, according to IKN Authority’s deputy of development control, Thomas Umbu Pati Tena Bolodadi.
"They came to witness the ongoing development of the Nusantara Capital City as part of Indonesia's transformation towards the political capital," said Thomas in an official statement quoted on Monday, April 7, 2025.
Thomas mentioned that domestic visitors came from diverse regions, not only Kalimantan but Java, Sulawesi and other regions as well. To accommodate these visits, the IKN Authority deployed the military, police, and local community volunteers.
"IKN is open to the public to let them witness the construction of Nusantara," said Thomas.
According to the authority records, the visit peaked on Thursday, April 3, with 14,104 visitors. Meanwhile, the visits on April 1 amounted to 8,219 people; on April 2, 12,958 people; on April 4, 10,215 people; and on April 5, 12,307 people.
Ismail, a visitor from Balikpapan, said that his IKN visit was driven by curiosity about the project. "Hopefully the construction could be completed in the next five years. Hopefully, IKN can become the expected nation’s capital, much more advanced and have a positive impact on the entire Indonesian society," he said.
The IKN construction has entered the second phase this year, with the authority aiming to build legislative and judiciary buildings while completing the remaining infrastructure development for the executive branch. Basuki stated that President Prabowo has set Rp48.8 trillion for IKN construction until 2029.
