TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The acid attack on the Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (KontraS) Andrie Yunus has passed more than a month. The investigation into this case is about to enter a new phase. The Military Prosecutor of 07-II Jakarta is scheduled to transfer the case files to the Jakarta Military Court today, Thursday, April 16, 2026.
The acid attack on Andrie Yunus occurred on March 12, when he was passing through Jalan Salemba I-Talang, Central Jakarta. The assault is suspected to be carried out by the Strategic Intelligence Agency (Bais) of the Indonesian National Armed Forces. As a result of the attack, the human rights activist suffered burn injuries of over 20 percent and has undergone multiple eye surgeries.
Here are several recent developments in the investigation concerning the acid attack on Andrie Yunus:
Case Files to be Transferred to Court
The Chief Military Prosecutor of 07-II Jakarta, Legal Colonel (Chk) Andri Wijaya, stated that he had received the decision letter for case submission or Skeppera as a basis for drafting the indictment on Wednesday, April 15, 2026.
Therefore, Andri mentioned that they would proceed with the case transfer. "The case files will be transferred to the Jakarta Military Court 08-II tomorrow morning (today)," Andri told Tempo on Wednesday.
Four Suspects to be Transferred
There are four suspects whose case files will be transferred to the Jakarta Military Court. They are NDP, SL, BHW, and ES from the air and naval forces. NDP holds the rank of captain, while SL and BHW hold the rank of first lieutenant, and ES holds the rank of sergeant.
This number is significantly fewer than the findings of the Democracy Advocacy Team (TAUD), the legal team for Andrie. The team suspects that there are 16 field perpetrators involved in the incident. TAUD representative, Alghiffari Aqsa, stated that this suspicion stemmed from TAUD's internal investigation based on recordings from 37 surveillance cameras around the scene of the incident on Jalan Salemba I-Talang, Central Jakarta.
"So, we matched several CCTV footages and observed, and it turns out that these people were coordinating. It turns out that these people were at the same point. It turns out that these people were giving each other signals," he said during a hearing with the House of Representatives' Commission III at the Senayan DPR Complex, Jakarta, on Tuesday, March 31, 2026.
Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) Chief of Information Center, Brigadier General Aulia Dwi Nasrullah, has not responded to requests for confirmation regarding the continuation of the investigation and the potential involvement of other perpetrators beyond the four personnel who have been designated as suspects.
Military Court Prepares Trial Schedule
The spokesperson for the Jakarta Military Court, Naval Mayor Arin Fauzan, stated that the Jakarta Military Court II-08 will soon schedule a trial for the case of Andrie Yunus. The case involving four members of the TNI's Bais will be tried approximately one week after the case files are transferred from the Military Prosecutor.
"If deemed complete, then we will proceed with the trial, approximately 1 week of working days after the transfer," he said when contacted on Wednesday, April 15, 2026.
Charges to be Imposed
In this case, the Military Prosecutor of 07-II Jakarta will charge the perpetrators with multiple articles. The overlapping articles referred to are Article 469 paragraph (1) of the Indonesian Criminal Code (KUHP) in conjunction with Article 20 letter c of the KUHP. Subsequently, Article 468 paragraph (1) of the KUHP in conjunction with Article 20 letter c of the KUHP, and Article 467 paragraph (1) in conjunction with paragraph (2) of the KUHP and Article 20 letter c of the KUHP.
Article 468 paragraph (1) of the KUHP regulates acts of assault resulting in severe injury with a maximum imprisonment of 8 years.
Meanwhile, Article 467 paragraphs (1) and (2) regulate premeditated assault. The maximum penalty for this article is 4 years of imprisonment in paragraph (1) and a maximum of 7 years of imprisonment in paragraph (2) if the assault results in severe injury.
TNI Yet to Disclose Perpetrators' Identities
Until the case files are handed over to the court, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) Headquarters has not revealed all the assailants to the public. Chief of Information Center of the TNI Major General Aulia Dwi Nasrullah stated that they are unable to fulfill this request. "They will only be presented during the trial," Aulia said on Monday, April 13, 2026.
