TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government successfully evacuated its citizens affected by the conflict in Yemen's northern region. Ten Indonesian citizens arrived safely at Soekarno-Hatta Airport on Thursday, May 22, 2025.

As reported in an official statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the citizens were evacuated via land from northern Yemen to the KBRI Muscat (Indonesian Embassy) shelter in the city of Tarim, in the southern region of Yemen, on May 17-18, 2025.

The citizens continued their journey to Salalah, Oman, on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, to be flown to Jakarta. The citizens hail from various regions, including Banten, Jakarta, East Java, West Nusa Tenggara, South Sulawesi, and Southeast Sulawesi.

The Indonesian government is also planning to facilitate the second wave evacuation. To date, 18 Indonesian citizens have expressed their willingness to participate in the second wave of evacuation, the majority of whom consist of women, children, and the elderly.

In response to the security situation in the northern region of Yemen, the KBRI Muscat has declared Alert Status I for Yemen's northern region, covering the areas of Hudaidah, Sana'a, Dhamar, Taizz, and Turbah, on May 10, 2025.

The Indonesian government has taken several protective measures, including intensive coordination with relevant ministries/institutions, updating data on Indonesian citizens in the areas of Yemen, updating the Contingency Plan, including evacuation routes, and coordinating with local authorities to ensure safe corridors for the movement of Indonesian citizens to safer areas.

The Kemlu and KBRI Muscat continue to record data on Indonesian citizens who wish to participate in the evacuation process to the homeland. The Foreign Affairs Ministry advises Indonesian citizens to remain vigilant, avoid high-risk locations or crowds, minimize unnecessary movement, and maintain close communication with the KBRI Muscat.

The ministry reminds families in Indonesia who have relatives in Yemen to contact the WNI Protection Directorate hotline at +6281290070027 or the KBRI Muscat Hotline at +968 9600 0210.
