TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The President of the Indonesian Labor Party, Said Iqbal, said that workers would continue demonstrating against the increase in Jakarta's 2026 Provincial Minimum Wage (UMP) to Rp5.72 million on Tuesday, December 30, 2025. He claimed that 10,000 workers would participate in tomorrow's demonstration in front of the State Palace.

"Tomorrow, December 30, 2025, there will be 10,000 motorcycles from West Java entering Jakarta," he said in the Patung Kuda area, Central Jakarta, on Monday, December 29, 2025.

Today, the workers staged a protest against the increase in Jakarta's 2026 UMP to Rp5.72 million. They want the Jakarta's 2026 UMP to be in accordance with the decent standard of living (KHL), which is Rp5,898,511.

Said stated that the workers had planned to protest in front of the State Palace today. However, the police hindered the workers from holding the demonstration at the State Palace. The workers decided to demonstrate in the Patung Kuda area.

According to Said, this hindrance is a form of democratic setback. He also requested the acceleration of police reform. "It seems that police reform must be expedited," he said.

Said said that the State Palace should not be considered a sacred place. The State Palace should be open to the public, including workers, to convey their aspirations. He accused those hindering the protest in front of the State Palace of acting militarily.

"There must be someone ordering this in a militaristic manner. This has reverted to a militaristic era. Militaristic methods are used to confront the protesters," he said.

He mentioned that the number of participants today was small. However, considering the hindrance today, Said said that the labor organization would mobilize 10,000 workers from West Java to come to Jakarta.

"It could also be 20,000 people who will attend, will they be driven back by violent means? Will militaristic methods be used again?" he said.

Said stated that today's action was the beginning of rejecting Jakarta's 2026 UMP. The labor organization is currently awaiting the government's response to negotiate a revision of Jakarta's 2026 UMP. The workers want the UMP Jakarta in 2026 to be in accordance with the decent standard of living (KHL), which is Rp5,898,511.

"We also urge the Governor of Jakarta to promptly ratify the value of UMSP, the Provincial Sectoral Minimum Wage of Jakarta in 2026," he said.

In addition, Said requested that the governor of West Java, Dedi Mulyadi, restore the value of the sectoral minimum wage of regencies/cities (UMSK) in 19 provinces in 2026. Previously, Dedi did not implement UMSK in several areas of West Java. Said requested Dedi to revise the Governor's Decree regarding UMSK and include UMSK in 19 Regencies/Cities of West Java.

"We ask for it to be revoked and revised into a new Governor's Decree, and the UMSK in 19 Regencies/Cities to be reintroduced, following the recommendations of the Regent and Mayor," he said.

Today, labor groups from various organizations, including the Confederation of Indonesian Workers' Organizations (KSPI), the National Workers Union (SPN), and the Indonesian Metal Workers Federation (FSPMI), staged a protest in Central Jakarta to reject the increase in Jakarta's 2026 UMP to Rp5.72 million.

Several local governments have announced the UMP for next year with varying amounts based on Government Regulation Number 49 of 2025 concerning wages. In the latest Wage Government Regulation, the formula for calculating the wage increase next year is inflation + (economic growth x alpha). The coefficient range of alpha from the center for the 2026 UMP is between 0.5 and 0.9.

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that the Wage Council meeting determined the 2026 UMP based on an alpha index of 0.75. "Thus, Jakarta's UMP increased by Rp333,115 from the previous Rp5,396,761," he said.

Meanwhile, the Governor of West Java, Dedi Mulyadi, announced that the UMP and UMSP of West Java next year will reach Rp2,317,601 and Rp2,339,995, respectively. Dedi Mulyadi stated that the specific sectoral minimum wage proposed by the regencies/cities, which was established for sectoral provisions, follows government regulations.

Dedi stated that the value of UMK and UMSK was the most ideal. "In my view, it is ideal. From the employers' point of view, it will be considered too expensive. From the workers' point of view, it will be considered too cheap, as usual. But the government is in the middle," he said.
