TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto met with the Minister of Youth and Sports and chair of the Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI), Erick Thohir, and the coach of the men's national football team, John Herdman, in Hambalang, Bogor, West Java, on Friday, June 19, 2026.
Herdman expressed his enthusiasm to meet with President Prabowo. "It is important for our players to know that we have our leader behind us," said Herdman upon arrival at Prabowo's residence.
He also expressed his hope for the Indonesian national team. "We are hoping to take this team to the World Cup in 2030," said the 50-year-old English coach.
Herdman and Erick were seen arriving at Hambalang on Friday evening in the same car.
State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi stated that Prabowo discussed future plans for Indonesian sports in the meeting with Erick and Herdman. "If we seek to qualify for the World Cup, of course we must prepare ourselves much more thoroughly," Prasetyo told reporters in Hambalang.
In addition to the World Cup, Prasetyo mentioned that Indonesia must also prepare for other competitions such as the FIFA series. According to him, Erick, as the Chair of the PSSI, is tasked with advancing the football competition climate in Indonesia to produce a strong national team.
Prasetyo also revealed that Prabowo worked from his residence in Hambalang today, Friday, following the work-from-home (WFH) policy that applies to eligible civil servants.
The WFH policy for civil servants has been in effect since April this year as the government bids to save fuel. "Coincidentally, today is Friday and as the WFH policy has yet to be revoked, Bapak President is working from home," said Prasetyo.
He joked that the "H" in work from home could be replaced with Hambalang. "WFH, the 'H' can be replaced with Hambalang," said the Gerindra Party politician.
