TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Sagrada Familia Basilica in Barcelona, Spain, is the best tourist destination, according to the 2025 Traveler's Choice Awards released by Tripadvisor. The tourist spots were selected based on Tripadvisor reviews from April 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025. As a result, the best tourist attractions worldwide this year are iconic landmarks and historical places.
Before traveling, tourists often look for information about the best attractions at their destination. However, it can be hard to decide which places are must-sees. Kristen Dalton, President of TripAdvisor, stated that with so many activities and tourist options available on the platform, Tripadvisor helps travelers find experiences that will make their journey a lifetime memory.
"Whether you crave adrenaline or prefer to take things slow, 'The Best of the Best Things to Do' showcases the world's top-rated experiences," she said in a statement as quoted from USA Today.

Iconic Landmarks
Several tourist attractions on the list are iconic landmarks renowned worldwide. At the top of the list is the Basilica de la Sagrada Familia, a church dedicated to the Holy Family. As one of Antoni Gaudi's most famous works, the church was built in 1882 and is estimated to be completed in 2026, coinciding with the 100th anniversary of Gaudi's death, as cited from Lonely Planet.
Travelers will admire its multi-layered and surreal facade, being captivated for hours under changing lights. The building is adorned with 18 towers designed to represent the twelve apostles, the Virgin Mary, the four evangelists, and Jesus Christ. Decorated with colorful ceramics and Murano glass mosaics, the pinnacles of the apostles are stunning.
Furthermore, beneath the apse, stained glass windows overlook a simple neo-Gothic underground space, where Gaudi was buried on June 12, 1926. This late 19th-century underground space is the oldest part of the basilica. Meanwhile, beneath the Passion façade and underground, the Gaudi Museum offers fascinating insights into Gaudi's life, work, and inspiration, as well as in-depth information about the basilica and its architecture.
