TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) recorded a 1.16 percent increase in air visits to Bali during the Christmas and New Year 2025 (Nataru) period. During the Nataru period, from December 18-29, 2025, there were 82,445 passengers, an increase from the 81,500 passengers recorded in the same period last year.
However, the Christmas and New Year (Nataru) transportation period runs from December 18, 2025, to January 5, 2025. "Passenger load levels are high, and airlines have implemented additional flights or extra flights to accommodate public needs," said Lukman F. Laisa, Director General of Air Transportation at the Ministry of Transportation, in a written statement on Monday, December 29, 2025.
The Directorate General of Air Transportation recorded that between December 18-29, 2025, 285 flight permits/Flight Approvals (FAs) were issued for extra flights to and from I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, Bali. Of these, 267 flights were operated.
Furthermore, Lukman said, passenger load factors on several major domestic routes were high. One example is the Jakarta-Denpasar route, which recorded an average load factor of 94 percent, with business class occupancy reaching 83 percent and economy class occupancy at 94 percent. On this route, the airline has operated 71 additional flights (extra flights).
The number of flights on the Jakarta-Denpasar route ranges from 32 to 45 per day, with operational adjustments typical during long holiday periods. "We ensure that air transportation services during the Christmas and New Year period, including to and from I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, Bali, run smoothly, safely, and smoothly," said Lukman.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Transportation recorded 467 daily aircraft movements, a 10.14 percent increase compared to the same period last year. Cumulatively, from December 18–28, 2025, the number reached 4,787 flights, a 2.93 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
Furthermore, Lukman said, daily passenger movements were recorded at 82,445 passengers, with cumulative movements from December 18–28, 2025, reaching 768,949 passengers. Cumulative extra flights for the same period this year totaled 267 flights. The cumulative On-Time Performance (OTP) was 67.48 percent, with a cumulative load factor of 74.05 percent.
The Ministry of Transportation is also observing the dynamics of tourist visits to Bali, which are currently influenced by weather conditions, flooding due to heavy rainfall, and waste management in several areas in Bali. However, these factors do not impact flight safety and security.
"We continue to monitor operations, including through ramp checks and fare monitoring, to ensure safe and smooth air transportation services during the Christmas and New Year holidays," said Lukman.
Previously, netizens reported a low number of tourist visits to Bali during this year-end holiday period. The factors cited varied, ranging from environmental cleanliness to tourism services.
Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana stated that Bali remains busy, despite a 2 percent decline in visits as of December 26. She also acknowledged a decrease in domestic tourists to the Island of the Gods.
"However, domestic tourism has indeed decreased slightly, perhaps due to the incessant reporting of unfavorable weather and other factors," said Widiyanti at Pondok Indah Mall 1 Jakarta, Friday, December 26, 2025.
She revealed that domestic tourists primarily visit East Java, Central Java, West Java, and Yogyakarta. Visits to Yogyakarta are expected to increase significantly this year.
